Day 4

Monday - June 30, 2008

We have experienced another beautiful day on Kiawah Island. The wind is blowing and it is cloudy, but still a gorgeous day. We ate a late breakfast, and then decided to try riding the bikes. I need to warn you (and myself) that it has been over 30 years since I rode a bike. They say you will never forget how to ride one. That’s true to a certain extent. The bike seat was too high so I adjusted it down while Bill was riding in the parking lot in circles to get the feel of his bike. I got on the bike, but something was wrong. The seat kept trying to move on me! I managed to go around the parking lot a little wobbly a couple of times, but that seat was just too uncomfortable! So, short- legged me stopped and tried to get off the bike—well I did—right on my bottom! Not to worry, I didn’t get hurt—just my pride was wounded! These are unisex bikes - so it might be better if I had a girl’s bike!!!!
Bill and I decided I had had enough bike riding for one day, so we decided to lock them back up at the stand. Bill had taken the lock to the car, so he went back to retrieve it. He took a short cut through the trees and fell! I heard him holler out, and went running—he had tripped over a root and fell on his side. Again, he was okay, just wounded his pride as well. Thus we decided we would go back to the condo; lick our wounds and our pride before we started another adventure.
It looked like rain so we stayed in for the afternoon. I sat on the deck listening to my IPOD (Celtic Music) and worked a SUDOKO while Bill sat in the living room reading! It was a relaxing afternoon.
We rested for a while and then went to the store where the deli is located! We bought a couple of pieces of prime rib, potato salad, rolls, and a Greek salad for supper. We carried the groceries in and decided to sit and relax by watching the ocean. (By the way, we have not been watching TV!!! We have just been listening to the ocean, wind, reading, and watching people on the beach!)
After about an hour or two of relaxing we decided to go down to the beach - Bill was ready to get his feet wet! The tide was coming in and the wind was still blowing profusely. We walked a while and ended up taking our shoes off and walked in the water. It felt sooooo good! We found a large piece of drift wood which we brought back to the condo –maybe we will get it back home if we don’t forget. We only stayed out for about 30-45 minutes. It was a good thing because it started raining!
When we got back in we decided to go ahead and eat our supper – it was delicious. The meal was like going out to a restaurant with out having to leave the house! We ate in the dining room and watched the tide coming in closer as we ate! It was a wonderful meal with great company.
We plan on reading, sitting on the deck and watch the ocean, work our puzzles, and enjoy one another’s company the rest of the evening. We might go back to the beach before night fall. Stay tuned and I will let you know!
Actually, we didn’t go back out, but stayed in and got the computer hooked up to the internet. Hopefully we will be able to share our journal entries and photos with all who might be interested in seeing and reading about what the Hardin’s are doing.

We also took some beautiful pictures of the sky from the balcony this evening. “Red sky at night, sailors delight.” The red tint in the sky was unbelievable. So, if you believe what the jingle says – we should have a beautiful day tomorrow!
