Day 10 - The Hat Brigade!

Sunday – July 6, 2008

Today was a day we chose not to go down to the beach. We were planning on having brunch at 1:00 at the Jasmine Porch which is located in The Sanctuary Hotel up the island from where we are staying. They serve what they call a “Jazz Brunch” probably because musicians play while you are eating. We didn’t ask, but the musicians could be a grandfather and grandson!! They played everything from Alice Cooper, the Beatles, and even Johnny Cash’s “I’ll Walk the Line.”
The food was just as delicious today as it was last Sunday! We had a server whose name was Anastasia – we were waiting on the Russian princess to come and serve us! But, she was a very sweet and friendly girl from the South. The service we have received there has been phenomenal! Ruby Tuesday could take a lesson or two (or three or four . . . .) from the management of the Jasmine Porch!
We asked our server if she would take our picture which she pleasantly did. Bill then took pictures of Lionel – the omelet chef – in front of a whole pig with an apple in its mouth! We think it was there for show – didn’t look like it had been carved.

We left there and traveled down the to The Freshfield’s Village. This is where the nice grocery store is located as well as several specialty shops – expensive places to buy souvenirs!!!! We did purchase a couple of things - a cowboy hat for me and a sun visor for Bill! This trip has turned out to be a hat extravaganza for me! With my hair being the length it is, and the way the wind is continually blowing, I needed something to hold my hair out of my face! The wind has managed to blow all hats I had been wearing off my head – once I had to chase it down the beach!!!
We went into this one surf store, and they had all kinds of hats. I tried on one of the cowboy hats with the string under my chin thinking this might help keep it on my head! Bill liked it on me – we chose a color and size, and I ended up wearing it all afternoon! I plan on wearing it in at Mom’s – whoa, wonder what she will think of me and my hat?????
While we were in this store we ran into a gentleman who had a Marshall shirt on. We struck up a conversation and he lives in Proctorville and was a graduate from MU. Next thing we hear is another gentleman saying something and he lives in Huntington but went to WVU. He said he would stay on the other side of the counter but we could all talk since we weren’t in WV!! Also, at Jasmine Porch, the host’s mother was from Welch, WV and a clerk in a shop had two friends from Huntington, and he is going to be in their wedding. It is a small world!
We also went into a bookstore and found another book by Philippa Gregory which will add another book to our collection about the Boleyn sisters and their descendants as well as the wives of Henry VIII. I am on the second book and Bill is reading the third in the series – all are very interesting!!!
The days are getting lower in number as far as the time we have left here at the beach. This journal will help us remember things we might have forgotten! Each day is a new adventure with great memories to share!
